The Holiday Inn, Preston; and Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Preston
The Research Group are busy ensuring we have an interesting and stimulating mix of papers and presentations for our seminar in October which, as mentioned in Culcita, will be residential at the Holiday Inn Preston.
The study sessions will be at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery close to the hotel, and will be led by a curator. They will include a selection from the Harris’ significant textile collection; a collection which includes such gems as the Horrockes’ archive; a set of the Forbes Watson Textile Manufactures of India sample books distributed to British textile manufacturing towns in 1866 as part of the development of design education within textile manufacture; quilted underskirts; local farm quilts; and a quilt with early nineteenth century cotton fabrics. As well as the study sessions, there will be the opportunity for each group to have a guided tour of the highlights of the Museum and Art Gallery. Check out the museum’s website at www.harrismuseum.org.uk for more information about their collections.
All bedrooms in the Holiday Inn are en-suite with internet access and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel is centrally located and close to the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, where Friday’s study sessions will be held. A map of central Preston will be sent to you on receipt of your booking showing the location of the hotel, the Harris, the railway station and other places of interest. You can get more information about places to visit in Preston and environs at www.visitlancashire.com/explore/preston or www.prestonguildcity.co.uk
I encourage you to book early, please. This really does help to ensure that relevant catering and seminar facilities/needs can be accommodated. If you are coming by car there is limited parking on site, (another reason to book early). The alternative is an NCP car park nearby.
Please note that the latest date by which I must have received your booking and payment is Friday 1 September to ensure we meet hotel requirements. To book, please download this form, and send to Susan Levett as soon as possible.
Your Committee looks forward to welcoming you to Preston for this year’s seminar which promises to be another stimulating, interesting and engaging event – and of course the chance to catch up with all your many BQSG chums.
