Back to the main Quilters' Guild website

The annual seminar is an important part of BQSG. Each year we choose a location where we can also visit a site or museum with interesting textiles or patchwork in the local area. Now extended to a weekend the seminar brings together serious researchers as well as those who are interested in hearing about quilts, textiles and quilt history without wanting to carry out personal research.

In addition to papers selected for presentation (see Research) there are often visits, talks and the opportunity to look at quilts brought by individual members. There are books for sale (and the occasional quilt) as well as time to talk with new and old friends about quilts, conservation, social history and quilt collections.

2018 sees the 20th anniversary of the first meeting of BQSG.  Details of the 2018 Seminar, including location and booking information below.

26 – 28 OCTOBER

The Research Group are busy ensuring we have a stimulating mix of papers and presentations from external speakers for our seminar in BQSG’s twentieth anniversary year.

As mentioned in January’s Culcita, our study sessions will be at St Fagans National Museum of History during the afternoon of Friday 26 October, led by the Principal Curator, leaving time during the morning to visit the interesting and comprehensive outdoor section of the Museum, should you wish, or for travelling.
The seminar will be held at the Copthorne Hotel, Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff CF5 6DH which is the nearest residential venue to St Fagans Museum (1.6 miles). Facilities include a gym, indoor pool, free wi-fi and modern in-room facilities. Browsing ‘Copthorne Hotel Cardiff’ will give images of rooms and location.

May we encourage you to book early, please. This really does help with ensuring relevant catering and seminar facilities/needs can be accommodated. The 135- roomed hotel has some 200 parking spaces and a lake-side setting to the rear. A location map will be sent on receipt of your booking.

Please note that the latest date by which we must have received your booking and payment is Friday 7 September to ensure we meet hotel requirements.

Your Committee looks forward to welcoming you to Wales for this years’ seminar which promises to be another stimulating, interesting and engaging event – and of course the chance to catch up with all your many BQSG chums.
