I have always loved colour, texture and pattern, quilting brings all these elements together for me.
I originally studied Dress Design and Textiles in the Seventies and became a Needlework teacher. Then in the Nineties I went back to University and studied Fine Art painting, gaining a BA Hons Degree. I must have been hooked on studying at that point as a City and Guilds in Embroidery quickly followed the painting course.
Quilting seems to tick all the boxes for me, design, pattern, colour, stitching and something practical at the end. I have difficulty deciding on whether I am a traditional quilter or a contemporary one, the answer is both, I love traditional quilts but I make quilts for now, using a variety of methods, materials and inspirations.
