I began quilting to make a baby gift for a friend. So far, 6 cot quilts made for 6 babies - and just one cushion and a jeans quilt for our own house! The V&A exhibition made me think about more than pieced pictures so that the last two cot quilts ( for twins) have blackwork pictures of nursery rhymes and fairy tales respectively. I also read avidly, cook - when I can beat my husband into the kitchen, ride and own half a narrowboat.
Currently, I am making and begging for quilts for Syrian refugee children resettled in the UK. A handmade gift conveys a lot of support and sympathy and so provides a much needed positive experience for children who have lost everything, including family in many cases, and are trying to rebuild their lives in a strange country. The inspiration for this came from this article on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34515388
I was born a dabbler in anything interesting and trained to be a teacher and a software analyst programmer.
