Janet Hassard

Jan has been a quilter and embroiderer for many years and is an active member of both the Quilters’ and Embroiderers’ Guilds.

She has studied and taught extensively in the UK and abroad and attended the Houston Quilt Festival, the New Zealand Symposium and many other shows and events. Her work has been exhibited widely and won many prizes, notably the Quilters’ Guild Award for colour twice.

Jan is also an invited judge for the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.

Jan teaches a variety of workshops varying from beginner to advanced level, specialising in colour and geometric designs. She also has a large personal collection of her quilts upon which she lectures.

Focal points of Jan’s designs and ideas are usually colour and illusion, making patterns to form a three dimensional appearance within a finished piece. Most of her quilts are designed with workshops in mind, although some have to be adapted for samples that can be worked on in a day. Students always leave with an extensive handout, including coloured photos of the quilts, and are usually well on their way to achieving a finished, complete piece.

Following on from the success of her workshops, Jan’s newest venture is preparing and selling her most popular designs as patterns online, together with her bespoke, handmade cushions.
