BQSG Study Visit
Thursday 17th March 2016: 2.00 to 4.00 p.m.
The Clothworkers’ Centre for the study & conservation of textiles and fashion, the V&A Museum, London
This visit is an opportunity to study some of the quilts in the V&A’s outstanding collection. These quilts are rarely on display, and if they have been they will have been behind glass and in low light levels. A selection of quilts have been chosen from different periods and employing different designs, techniques and fabrics. Advice will be given on how to study quilts for those that may be new to quilt study.
There may also be time for a short late morning visit to the medieval galleries in the V&A itself to see the important Sicilian Tristan quilt, before going on to the Clothworkers’ Centre for the afternoon.
The Clothworkers’ Centre in Blythe House, Olympia, opened in 2013 and aims to provide the best possible access to the Museum’s collection of textiles and fashion in a relaxed and peaceful environment.
The study visit will be led by Isabel Dibden Wright, previously Senior Lecturer in the School of Design at Manchester Metropolitan Unversity, current head of the research panel of the BQSG.
The cost of the study visit is £10 for BQSG Members. Places are limited so early booking is advised. The last date for bookings is Friday 19th February 2016.
To book please download a booking form here or send an SAE marked ‘Study Day Booking Form’ to Isabel Dibden Wright, 55 South Drive, Chorltonville, Manchester M21 8DZ.
