BQSG Exploring Research Study Day

Tuesday 25th July 2017: 10.00 – 16.00

The Museum of Cambridge

Quilts can be fascinating items to study and if you have always wondered how to go about unlocking their secrets here is your chance to find out more. This is a full day workshop on how to begin quilt research. The sessions are suitable for beginners to quilt research or those wishing to gain new ideas on research techniques or those who haven’t done research for a while.

On the day you will be able to learn about different approaches to studying historic and contemporary quilts and quilt making practice. There will be guidance on selecting a research topic, finding information, putting quilts into context and working with museums. There will also be a practical study session with the chance to examine quilts in detail from the museum’s collection and from one of The Quilters’ Guild travelling collections. You will learn how to “read” a quilt.

Isabel Dibden Wright and Carolyn Ferguson will lead the study day.

The Museum of Cambridge is located on the corner of Castle Street and Northampton Street, Cambridge; just 5 minutes walk from the city centre. Further relevant information can be found at www.folkmuseum.org.uk.
