Exploring Research Study Day

This event takes place on 29th June 2019 from 10:30am to 4:00pm and will take place at St Anthony's Hall, Peasholme Green, York YO1 7PW.

It is a Guild event being organised by BQSG Isabel Dibden Wright, isabeldibdenwright@gmail.com.

Quilts can be fascinating items to study and if you have always wondered how to go about unlocking their secrets here is your chance to find out more. This is a full day workshop on how to begin quilt research. The sessions are suitable for beginners to quilt research and those wishing to gain new ideas on research techniques or who haven’t done research for a while.

On the day you will be able to learn about different approaches to studying historic and contemporary quilts and quiltmaking practice. There will be guidance on selecting a research topic, finding information, putting quilts into context and working with museums. There will also be a practical study session with the chance to examine quilts in detailfrom The Quilters’ Guild Collection, and learn how to “read” a quilt.

The study day will be led by Isabel Dibden Wright, previously Senior Lecturer in the School of Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, Bridget Long, Chair of the BQSG Research Panel and Heather Audin, curator of The Quilters’ Guild Collection.

Information on how to find The Quilters’ Guild, including a map and travel directions, can be found at www.quiltmuseum.org.uk/finding-us/
