Online Collections and Exhibitions of Interest

Although it’s not possible to actually visit quilt/textile exhibitions and collections at the moment there are many that are available to view online – here are a few to start with and the list will be added to when possible so if you know of any others then please send details to web_bqsg@quiltersguild.org.uk

We’ll begin with our own BQSG website where you will find lots to see on the Quilt of the Month pages. https://bqsg.quiltersguild.org.uk/quilt-of-the-month

Some BQSG members have their own websites which have a wealth of information -

Pippa Moss’s blog Welsh Quilts is a searchable site and features many quilts both Welsh and North Country along with their histories. http://welshquilts.blogspot.com/

Carolyn Gibbs has a website which has details of many of the quilts in her collection  https://www.carolyngibbsquilts.co.uk/antique-quilts/

and she also a video on British Wholecloth quilts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujVMP7Tt6IA&feature=youtu.be

Helen Barnes is doing a ten week blog at the moment to promote North Country quilts. Here is a link to her website and blog https://helenbarnestextiles.co.uk/

The Quilters’ Guild Collection has its own website where you can view a great number of the quilts and other items in the collection as well as accessing lots of other information.http://www.quiltmuseum.org.uk/

Also, at the moment it is featuring a quilt nearly every day on its Facebook pages                                                           https://www.facebook.com/The-Quilters-Guild-Collection-46864603169/

The Quilt Association at The Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes has a good online presence of their own collection – just follow the links on the left side of the page to view the various categories. http://www.quilt.org.uk/page-6-Our+Collection.html

St Fagan’s National Museum of Wales also has an excellent online collection with very good photos of the quilts. This link takes you to the search for ‘Quilt’ with photos but you can search further if you wish. https://museum.wales/collections/online/?field0=string&value0=quilt&field1=with_images&value1=1

The Quilt Association, Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes has excellent and detailed pages of it's quilt collection http://www.quilt.org.uk/page-6-Our+Collection.html

Much further afield in real life but still only a click or two away virtually is the International Quilt Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. https://www.internationalquiltmuseum.org/   Their website is full of information - from their own collections to exhibitions past and present together with relating galleries and other information. Some also have links to videos via you-tube or podcasts of full paper presentations (around an hour long) such as this one which was presented by Bridget Long in 2012 https://www.internationalquiltmuseum.org/exhibition/elegant-geometry-american-and-british-mosaic-patchwork
