I enjoyed my two days at the Festival of Quilts this year - although I must admit to being very tired when I came away. The quilts were marvellous as always, I enjoyed my time on the BQSG stand, and meeting up with fellow quilters.
Here's what I came away with - books, of course. The 1718 Quilt book, which I had signed by Susan Briscoe; a lovely book on Chintz quilts; and some books on machine quilting, which I do teach as well as hand quilting.
I have recently bought a vintage lone star quilt top, and have been considering how to finish it. One idea was to use "big stitch" to quilt it, and to this end I bought differnt weights of perle cotton plus suitable needles. I also bought a Patsy Thompson book on machine quilted feathers. I already had the DVD - but I had found this less than satisfactory - there is nothing to beat having a hard copy next to you as you practice! I've decided that the machine quilting would be more fun - and that the big stitch would be too much of a learning curve - so its off to practice with four practice pieces that I have made up from leaftover fabrics and wadding.Watch this space!
